Drumsolos

MP3 Size Description
Improvised drumsolo #1 4.7 mb This is something I recorded at the end of a studio session with Ronny Heimdal.
Variations on Crazy Army 1.3 mb Steve Gadd has been an inspiration for many drummers on this planet, including me. This is something I recorded a long time ago. A good drum march solo, originally created by Steve Gadd himself.

Excerpts from records

MP3 Size Description
Played by Ear - Fusionasia 0.6 mb Exerpt from the Played by Ear song, Fusionasia. This song was created by Jon Martin Skauge, and a new version will be featured at his upcoming solo album.
Played by Ear - Improvised Jam 0.6 mb Played by Ear jamming over my layback shuffle groove.
Mahirim - Enigmatic Paths 0.7 mb Exerpt from the (late) prog metal band, Mahirim.

Note: This is some of the things I've done in my past. Soon I will feature new stuff from Artificial Comfort, Jarle H. Olsen Project and Jon Martin Skauge.

Progressive

MP3 Size Description
Basic 7/8 ideas 1.2 mb Some examples on how to be creative with the basic 7/8 groove.
Basic 9/8 ideas 1.4 mb Same as above, but in 9/8.
Tricky 5/4 groove 0.3 mb Alternating between bassdrum and hihat foot while playing 2/4 with right hand, ghosting in 5/4 with left hand.
Impro over 7/8 bass theme 2.8 mb This is fun. Free improvisation over a repetative 7/8 bass theme.
Alien Hip Hop groove 0.3 mb Originally created by Virgil Donati. This is a very tricky and fun groove. First I'm playing the bassdrum ostinat on the snare, then I'm executing the groove. Puh!
Psycho Bassdrum 0.4 mb Some psycho bassdrum stuff in 270 BPM. Very good gym exercise!
Impro in 11/16 1.5 mb Very cool groove. This is some improvisation I did a few years ago.

Note: This is my progressive world! Above you'll find some tricky audio demonstrations and some ideas on how to experiment over various time signatures.

Exotic

MP3 Size Description
Baiâo 0.9 Improvisation over Baiâo theme. Cool rhythm from the beautiful country, Brazil. Beware! This example is biased by my western playing style.
Songo 0.3 Songo is best known for, unlike most other afro cuban rhythms, it's untraditional origins. This rhythm was actually developed on the drumset by Jose "Changuito" Quintana. In this audio example, I play a few easy variations on top of the songo beat.

Note: Any afro cuban, latin or exotic rhythm will end up here.
